Dandelion’s Impact goes way beyond the dance studio!

Our program participants tell us that Dandelion’s programs benefit them in so many ways.

Our programs build self-esteem and help girls discover and practice their unique capacity to imagine, express, create and lead.

Dandelion Dance Teens

“I am enough. I don’t need to change myself or make myself look a certain way for anyone.”

“If I hadn’t been a part of Dandelion, I would not be the same person I am today: someone I am proud of being.”

“I can make a change. It may not be a big one but it can be the starting block of something better.”

We help to break stereotypes and build empathy by allowing girls to learn, connect and create with others from very different backgrounds.
Dandelion Dance Girls

“Having the chance to work with such a beautiful and diverse group of young women has opened my eyes to a world of different cultures, opinions and beliefs. Before Dandelion I definitely was not as educated on the different ethnic groups, religions, etc. that exist in our communities and therefore had presumption on them from not yet being exposed to them, that of course has all amazingly changed now.”

“I see how people of different abilities have the same needs and desires as everyone. Also how intelligent, creative and hilarious people who we label as disabled are if we just listen to them.”

“Dandelion has given me the ability to see all people as my equal, no matter the difference in our sizes, movements, abilities. I know that I have so much to learn from everyone despite how we may be different in race or class and that they also have a lot to learn from me. Dandelion fostered those feelings through open discussion and sharing of ideas.”

We enable them to see new possibilities in all areas of their lives – and to have the confidence and resilience to pursue their dreams!

Dandelion Dance Alumni

“I’m currently in my final year of medical school at McGill. I’m applying to a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and I just want to say how much Dandelion has contributed to this decision … I want to thank you for providing me with the tools to thrive. Still to this day I repeat to myself the words you told us so often: “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” These have enabled me to envision and start projects I otherwise wouldn’t have for fear of failure. I firmly believe that without my Dandelion years, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”

“When I dance with Dandelion, it feels like I’m affecting a bigger picture. Like my body and mind are coming together, and every word I speak and leap I make are part of a big step forward. Dandelion has made me realize my voice counts.”

“There are no limits on what can be accomplished if you create deeply rooted connections with others and strive to build community.”

“I was very moved by the performances. So powerful, insightful and thought provoking. It was amazing to know that what we saw was all their own ideas and choreography. These young ladies should be very proud of what they have accomplished. I felt very privileged to experience their creation.”
